Muscat, 7 June 2021 –
With an aim of upscaling the local cloud computing market in the Sultanate, Jebel Akhdar Data Center (Datamount) and International Emerging Technology Company (ETCO), two leading local companies in technology, teamed up with Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, to bring advanced, secure and reliable cloud services and technologies to businesses in Oman. With the support of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology; the signing of the agreement comes on the sidelines of the Communications and Information Technology Exhibition (COMEX 2021). The event was held in Knowledge Oasis, in the presence of HE Dr Ali bin Amer al Shaidani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, HE Dr. Mohammed Al-Maamari, Chairman of Mus-haf Muscat Endowment Fund and the Related Applications, and Dr. Taher Al Kindi, Chairman of Datamount.
Under the partnership, Alibaba Cloud will provide cloud computing and related technology services while Datamount will be a local reseller partner to market the cloud computing services of Alibaba cloud in Oman.
On this occasion, the Undersecretary of MTCIT, Ali Al Shidhani stated: “This agreement reflects the efforts undertaken by the Ministry to play its role in encouraging foreign investments and supporting Omani companies operating in the information and communication technology sector to develop their services and products to compete in the local and international markets which contribute in advancing developments and national economy while providing training and job opportunities for Omani youth and spur entrepreneurial activities in this vital and renewable sector.” He added: “We are proud of this agreement, which was signed today with one of the leading international companies, as this represents a clear indication of Alibaba Cloud’s confidence in the economic climate in the Sultanate.”
Phillip Liu, General Manager of the Middle East and Africa, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, said: “We are happy to build up the partnership with Datamount and ETCO to bring advanced, secure and reliable cloud services and technologies to businesses in Oman. We believe the partnership will further upscale the local cloud computing market and better support the local businesses to embrace digital economy.”
In addition, Abdul Hakeem AL Muslahi, CEO at Datamount stated: “With Datamount’s main objective, to make Oman a regional Data Hub by bringing cutting edge technologies to serve the Sultanate and the region, today’s agreement marks the beginning of many more to come. Signing this agreement, with one of the leading technology providers Alibaba Cloud, which in its terms upscales the technology in Oman and enhances the skills of local IT experts.”
